brisbane markets
In the early days of the colony free settlers shopped at Brisbane’s first marketplace in Market St and later at the Roma St Markets, then the advent of corner stores, shopping centres and eventually shopping malls all but killed the trip to the market.
In the 1980s entrepreneur Peter Hackworth started the stalls rolling again, establishing flea markets at West End and Riverside. Today the revival is in full swing with markets of all varieties - farmers, organic, flea, fashion, craft, ethnic and kids stuff – pulling the crowds.
And although the majority take advantage of the climate and are held outdoors, some can also be found indoors.
